It was so good to talk to you all at conferences. Thank you for your input and interest. Working together makes it so much easier to move the children toward success. Tonight was our second annual Family Math Night. I haven't heard the numbers but it looked like a good turnout. The three third grades played games that come from our Math series so our students were familiar with them but everyone seemed to enjoy them. Hopefully you got to move around to other rooms and grades to try out a variety of games. Those who came got a free Otter Pop, a chance for prizes and will receive a homework pass.
I hope the students have shared with you some of the helpers we have in our room. Mrs. Zbonack, who is new to us this year, is Robins' math interventionist. She comes into our classroom on Tuesdays and Thursday to help us with games, and small group and individual help with math. It is great to have another set of eyes, ears and hands. We have also had three University of AZ Education students who are learning the art of teaching but also lending a hand. Last week they facilitated both a math lesson and a science talk. The students are really enjoying their interactions with them as well.
Thanks for getting the kids to school every day. September has been attendance awareness month and so far we are in a tie with Mrs. Devinney for a pizza party. Both our classes received Peter Piper token certificates and special pencils.
We bid farewell and good luck to Cadence at the end of the quarter as she moves on up the road to Phoenix. We also welcome Mariah who has moved here from California--so numbers stay the same.
Next up--Fall Break. No school for students Friday as teachers prepare report cards. This actually starts the break for the students. See you back on Monday the 13th. Have a fun, safe break--be sure to do some reading!
Spelling
Each week the Spelling words will be listed for you to practice at home. Lists also come home with homework. Pretest on Monday. Those who miss three or less on the pretest may take the challenge list instead on Fri. Final test for all is on Friday.
